Rofluid P1 is used as a raw material base for the production of superplasticizers for concrete. The product is a 50% aqueous solution of polycarboxylate ether (PCE) from transparent to delicate white colour. The polymer consists of a long main chain and short side chains depending on the number of repeating units of ethylene oxide and/or propylene.
The polymer particles adsorb the surface of the cement grains, and create a hindrance for the neighbouring grains, which impedes the agglomeration of cement grains in the concrete mix. Due to this mechanism, the cement dispersion increases significantly, which simultaneously improves the rheological properties of the mix and facilitates the clinker hydration process. Rofluid P1 allows obtaining a concrete mix with a very good rheological parameter.
The use of a PCE type superplasticizer enables to reduce the batched water by up to 35% compared to the control mix, which is associated with greater durability of concrete elements, and increased early strength which is especially desirable in the production of precast concrete.
Hardened concrete containing Rofluid P1 is more airtight. By eliminating part of the batched water and reducing the porosity, the parameters of hardened concrete improve abrasion, resistance to chemical aggression, ion migration. Product dosing depends on the type of raw materials used during the concrete production process (type of cement, grain composition of aggregates, type of concrete additives), type of mixer and atmospheric conditions. The recommended dosage of Rofluid P1 in the concrete mix is 0.2% to 1.5% based on the weight of the binder. All Rofluid products are fully miscible.
One of the most important applications of PCE is the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC) and precast concrete. Its addition has a great impact on the workability of the mixture, and significantly reduces the amount of batched water used.
