ROKAfenol N8LA is a non-ionic surfactant which belongs to ethoxylated and propoxylated nonylphenols. It is a clear or opalescent oily liquid with a colour of max. 70 in the Hazen scale. The cloud point of this product for an aqueous solution is within the range of 48-56°C. Its solubility point is about -12°C, whereas the active substance content is approximately 100%. It is freely soluble in water (it goes through the gelation stage) and becomes cloudy when heated. ROKAfenol N8LA is an alternative to ethoxylated nonylphenols and trading in these substances will be limited from 2021 onwards.
The product is recommended mainly for the textile, tanning and construction industries and as a component of formulations used in industrial and institutional cleaning (in closed circulation systems). It is an ingredient of cleaning and washing-up products, as well as textile preparations. Its performance parameters do not deteriorate at a low temperature because it is active in cold water. It is also active in hard water, and in acidic, neutral, and alkaline baths. Similarly, to ROKAfenol N8, the product is characterized by wetting and detergent properties, which are effective even at high electrolyte concentrations, as well as in the presence of oxidizing and reducing agents. It prevents the precipitation of calcium soaps, thus preventing the appearance of stains and uneven colouring on fabrics and fibres.
ROKAfenol N8LA is an excellent emulsifier of fats, oils, waxes, organic solvents, and synthetic polyester resins. This makes detergent processes more effective. The product forms moderately stable emulsions with chlorinated organic solvents, vegetable, and mineral oils.
Similarly, to ROKAfenol N8, ROKAfenol N8LA has a very wide range of applications in the textile industry. It is used as:
detergent (for raw fibres in the processing of cotton, wool, and synthetic materials, in the process of desizing natural silk, to remove impurities, grease and preparations applied during spinning and weaving),
wetting agent (e.g. in carbonization and finishing baths),
dispersant,
penetrator (in bleaching baths),
additive to dyes of different colour grades and types at any stage of processing,
colouring and finishing agent for all types of fibres.
ROKAfenol N8LA can be used as an additive to bleaching, washing, degreasing and other baths in the process of preparing all types of fibres for colouring. When it is used to wash different types of fibres, it provides a very good washing effect and improves fibre strength. It is especially recommended for washing wool in baths with no added alkalis.
ROKAfenol N8LA is also an ingredient of compositions used for industrial washing, cleaning, wetting, and degreasing. When mixed with alkyl sulphates and alkyl aryl sulfonates, it has a synergic effect, which makes it an excellent additive in the production of industrial and institutional washing detergents.
It is also used as an additive to greases to ensure the complete homogenization of added anti-corrosion agents and to improve lubricating properties.
In the metal industry, the product can be mixed with mineral acids and corrosion inhibitors for cleaning, degreasing and pickling metal products. It is a component of preparations which increase the lubricity and wash-off of oil coolants. It is an additive that increases resistance to corrosion and the staining of zinc coatings. In electroplating, it produces a glossy effect.
In tanning, ROKAfenol N8LA acts as a wetting agent, softener, and leather degreaser. When it comes to dry tanning, it disperses dyes and pigments and is used as an additive in the leather dyeing process. It speeds up the penetration of tanning agents and at the same time degreases and cleans leather and hair.
ROKAfenol N8LA can also be used as a stabilizer of rubber emulsions, synthetic latex, natural and synthetic waxes, polishing agents, and finishes based on them. It can also be used as a dispersant in the production of paint emulsions based on rubber latex, even when the concentration of calcium in emulsion varnishes is high.
In the paper industry, the product is suitable for wetting, emulsifying, and removing stains from paper pulp and cellulose. Its detergent properties are also used in formulations designed for cleaning installations in the pharmaceutical industry.
