Rofluid M is a new generation admixture, which is a low viscosity yellow to brown aqueous solution of polycarboxylate ether (PCE). PCEs are new generation concrete admixtures, compounds with a specific structure (the so-called comb structure, consisting of a long main chain and side chains with lengths depending on the number of repeating units of ethylene oxide and / or propylene.
It is used as a very effective concrete setting retarder and an efficient admixture, reducing the flow limits of a concrete mix. Can be mixed with other products of the Rofluid line.
The mechanism of how PCEs work, is the result of their chemical structure. Rofluid P particles adsorb the surface of cement grains and create a steric hindrance for neighbouring grains. The resulting particles with a specific hydrodynamic volume (different depending on the structure of the polymer) will repel each other when they are too close together. The agglomeration of grains is therefore difficult, the formation time of cement hydration products is extended and the setting time of the concrete mix is delayed. In addition, the concrete mix with the addition of Rofluid M allows you to get a concrete mix with very good workability, while preventing segregation of components, making the resulting concrete tight.
This product has very good properties reducing the amount of batched water used in the concrete mix. Thanks to the addition of Rofluid M, the water / cement ratio can be reduced, resulting in a reduction of water consumption by up to 35%. This has a direct impact on the durability of concrete, its early strength (which allows faster demoulding of concrete elements) and late strength increase, the concrete becomes more airtight, so its resistance to aggressive substances, frost and abrasion resistance increases.
To obtain concrete with standard strength it is recommended to use 0.4-1.0% Rofluid M in relation to the mass of the binder, while for obtaining high-strength concrete with high fluidity, the admixture addition should be slightly higher, 0.5-1.5% product to the cement binder mass. It should be remembered that the amount of PCE added to the concrete mix depends, among others on the type of cement, the method of preparing the mix, the method of mixing or ambient temperature. Rofluid M can be used at air temperatures up to -5 ° C, the consistency of the concrete mix will not deteriorate, and cement hydration will not be inhibited.
The use of Rofluid M is recommended primarily in the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC), large-size concrete elements with the required high strength and high workability, bridge concrete, but also prefabricated concrete. The concrete mix after applying Rofluid M will have a very good consistency, extended setting time, and the resulting concrete will be more durable and tight.
