POLIkol 400PF belongs to the polyoxyethylene glycol group. The product fulfils the stringent quality requirements of the latest edition of European Pharmacopoeia, thanks to which it may be classified as a macrogol. Macrogols are the pharmacopoeial name for polyethylene glycols that are used as ingredients in medicines, ointments, dermocosmetics, or other pharmaceutical formulations.
POLIkol 400PF is characterised by a wide spectrum of application properties. This product exhibits excellent softening, lubricating, solubilising, moisturising, and antistatic properties. It appears as a colourless, viscous liquid.
POLIkol 400PF in pharmaceutical formulations is a component of, among others, eye and ear drops. It can be used as a filling of gelatine capsules. It also occurs as a mixture with Macrogols with a higher molar mass (e.g. greater than 3000 g/mol), taking the form of a paste, which is the basis for ointments. They are also used as humectants, i.e. water-binding agents included in the formulations, which ensure even distribution of their ingredients.
In addition, Macrogols are safe, non-toxic and do not have a negative environmental classification.
POLIkol 400PF meets the requirements of the current Ph. Eur. monograph for Macrogol 400
