ROKAmin K5 is a non-ionic surfactant with the INCI name ‘PEG-5 Cocamine’. It belongs to ethoxylated fatty amines with an average ethoxylation of 5 mols. The commercial product contains approximately 100% of the active substance. ROKAmin K5 has a form of a clear liquid with the colour of amber. Its freezing point is approx. -19°C. The product dissolves well in water.
Due to the presence of the oxyethylene double chain at the nitrogen atom, the product has a combination of action in the application as a nonionic and cationic surfactant, especially in acid systems. Owing to its cationic character, a molecule of ROKAmin K5 can create a single film on a metal surface. Consequently, the product shows an anti-corrosion effect, in particular on ferrous metals.
Good emulsifying properties allow the product to be used in agrochemical formulations such as EW, EC, SL, ME, WP or WG. The product is also suitable for making cationic emulsions. In this application, it may be used alone or in combination with other surfactants. In lubricant production, it is used as an ingredient of cooling and greasing formulations as well as fire-retardant hydraulic fluids.
ROKAmin K5 shows very good detergency and dispersing properties, so it may effectively remove solid dirt. The product is also efficient in acid and alkaline formulations, and is resistant to hard water. These features make it useful for the cleaning of industrial and public buildings, as an ingredient of cleaners used for hard surfaces, industrial degreasers and metal cleaning agents. ROKAmin K5 also shows drying properties when used in carwash cleaning products.
