ROKAnol® IT15 is classified among the non-ionic surfactants of ethoxylated fatty alcohols (INCI: Isotrideceth-15). It forms part of the IT line of ROKAnol® products, which is a numerous group of surfactants based on isotridecyl alcohol izo-C13. The commercial product contains about 100% of the active substance.
At a temperature of 50°C it assumes the form of a clear liquid with colour of max. 2 on the Gardner scale. It coagulates at a temperature close to 24°C. It is characterized by high cloud point in the temperature range 80-85°C in a sodium chloride solution. ROKAnol® IT15 has hydrophilic properties, thanks to which it is characterized by good solubility in water and low aliphatic alcohols. Furthermore, it is a good emulsifier of aromatic solvents, with a HLB of approx. 14.8.
ROKAnol® IT15 has many industrial applications, ranging from washing and cleaning agents intended for household use, to specialist preparations for cleaning various hard surfaces, in particular degreasing compositions with a high alkalinity or acidity. Examples of such products are pre-washing agents and alkaline active foams for car care, graffiti washing agents, highly acidic detergents for bathroom sediment removal.
It is recommended for applications in the textile industry thanks to its wetting and dispersing activity, as well as due to its high stability in the presence of alkalis. It can be applied in fibre pre-treatment processes, as an ingredient of compositions used to wash textiles or knitwear of oil stains and for cotton product bleaching. ROKAnol® IT15 can be included in a composition intended for the removal of a pigment from a dyeing bath after the process of dyeing different textile materials. The product meets the safety standards for textile products set out by the leading global Textile Institutes, such as the Oeko – Tex Standard Association and the ZDHC Program.
It can be successfully used in an environment containing oxidising and reducing agents as well as in hard water. Due to the non-ionic nature of its molecule, ROKAnol® IT15 can be used in a mixture with other non-ionic, anionic and cationic surfactants. This gives the possibility for creating many different formulations with this product.
ROKAnol® IT15 can act as a co-emulsifier in the emulsion polymerization process, improving the resistance of the dispersion to the presence of such media as electrolytes, hard water and solvents. The product can be used in the production of styrene-acrylic acrylic dispersions, vinyl acetate homo- and copolymers, including VAE dispersions.
Furthermore, ROKAnol® IT15 is also used as an additive in the production of food packaging or materials intended for contact with food. This product is approved for use as a non-direct additive for contact with food based on the list published by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the German BfR (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung).
