SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 is an anionic surface active agent based on ethoxylated lauryl alcohol. The commercial product has the form of a transparent solution with a 30% active ingredient concentration. The basic application of SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 is the process of industrial production of polymer dispersions, particularly dispersions of acrylic, styrene-acrylic, vinyl, and vinyl-acrylic copolymers in processes of emulsion polymerisation, where the product serves as the main emulsifier.
A quality that distinguishes SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 from other anionic emulsifiers is the relatively high degree of ethoxylation in the raw material. This enables obtaining unique product properties, which gains qualities characteristic of non-ionic emulsifiers in addition to parameters typical for anionic emulsifiers.
Consequently, in polymerisation processes SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 ensures the right size of particles in the forming dispersion while maintaining a very low level of coagulate. At the same time, the large non-ionic group allows a very effective process stabilisation in the presence of metal ions (e.g. found in hard water) or organic solvents. Once the process is complete, SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 very effectively stabilises the finished dispersion, especially in the presence of the previously mentioned agents - electrolytes or organic liquids. The product has an advantageous influence on dispersion stability at low temperatures - its use enables improving dispersion resilience to freezing and unfreezing cycles, compared to classic anionic emulsifiers.
Use of SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 also contributes to improved application properties of the end product. Dispersions made with the use of SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 are characterised by their ability to form polymer coats with improved resistance to such factors as water or changing atmospheric conditions. It has also been observed that the product has a beneficial effect on the appearance and quality of the coat itself, including gloss.
SULFOROKAnol L1230/1 can be successfully used as a standalone emulsifier in emulsion polymerisation processes, although its effectiveness improves when it is applied in combination with the right non-ionic surfactants, particularly with ROKAnol L30/65, ROKAnol IT40/70, ROKAnol UD40/70 or ROKAnol TSP25/80. Recommended product level is an amount of active ingredient equal to 0.5-4% of total monomer weight.
The surfactant complies with the biodegradability criteria laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004 on detergents.
