ROKAnol L10/85 is a non-ionic surfactant, belonging to the group of ethoxylated fatty alcohols with the INCI name: Laureth-10. The product co-forms a group of surfactants based on lauryl alcohol. At a temperature of 20–25°C it is a clear liquid with colour of max. 40 on the Hazen scale. ROKAnol® L10/85 is very well soluble in water. The HLB parameter value for this product is around 14.1. The commercial product contains about 85% of the active substance and solidifies at a temperature of about 5°C. Due to its form and low pour point, the product is easy to handle under process conditions.
ROKAnol L10/85 is characterised by a lower range of the cloud point in an aqueous solution in the range of (73–79)°C compared to ROKAnol L10/80. Thanks to its high cloud point value in water, it can be used in applications requiring high temperatures.
Due to its very good detergent, wetting, dispersing and emulsifying properties, the product is used as a basic surfactant in liquid and powder detergents, dishwashing liquids, household and technical cleaners, as well as in hand cleaners. In such applications, the product exhibits a synergistic effect with ROKAnol® LK3, producing a high detergency effect and limiting dirt redeposition.
It can be used with oxidising and reducing agents, as well as with hard water. It is active in cold water, acidic and neutral baths, as well as in diluted alkalis. It exhibits higher resistance to alkaline environments than ROKAnol® L7. ROKAnol L10/85 can be used in mixtures with other non-ionic additives, as well as with anionic and cationic surfactants. In a mixture with alkyl sulphates and alkyl aryl sulfonates, it shows a synergistic washing and cleaning effect.
ROKAnol® L10/85 can also be used in a wide range of cosmetic products, i.a. skin and hair wash and care agents, in coloured cosmetics, sunscreens, shaving and after shave products. In addition, this product can be used in fibre pre-treatment processes as a component of a formulation removing oil stains (mineral oils) from fabrics/knits, which result from industrial knitting and weaving processes. Due to its cotton wetting properties, it can be used as a component of a bleaching composition for raw knitted and woven cotton fabrics. It is also used in the final stage of the textile dyeing process as one of the ingredients removing excess dyes from the bath.
The surfactant complies with the biodegradability criteria laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004 on detergents.
