POLIkol 4000 is a product from the polyoxyethylene glycol group (PEG with a mean molecular mass of 4000) with the INCI name: PEG-90. The commercial product is a white to light yellow wax offered in pastille form. The solidification temperature of the product is about 55°C. The product dissolves to an unlimited degree in water, low aliphatic alcohols, ethyl ether and chloroform.
It is a safe, non-toxic product and does not irritate the skin, therefore it is used as a water-soluble ingredient in hard cosmetics, such as lipsticks. POLIkol 4000 can be used as a moisture retaining agent in cosmetic preparations, such as creams, facial cleansers, scrubs, and makeup removers. It can be added to the formulation to improve its rheological properties (increase viscosity). The product can also be used as an active ingredient carrier and binding agent in dishwashing tablets, laundry tablets and bath salts.
It forms part of industrial lubricant formulations, particularly water-soluble synthetic cutting fluids and heat transfer fluids. The product is used as a release agent in the processing of rubber, plastics and elastomers. It is also used as an additive in the processing of textiles.
POLIkol 4000 is used as a plasticiser and binder in the production of ceramics and food packaging made from biopolymers. Among the international agencies that have positively evaluated it is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has authorised the use of polyethylene glycol as a non-direct food additive in accordance with the CFR 21 lists:

It should be noted that the product can be used in accordance with the organisation's definitions, provided that the maximum permitted dosage is not exceeded.
The product is not classified in accordance with the CLP/GHS regulation.
