Roksol N87 is a low-foaming, non-ionic surfactant used in the tanning industry. It is used for soaking and degreasing leather at any stage of the tanning process. The product is in the form of a homogeneous liquid with a colour ranging from colourless to pale yellow. It shows excellent solubility in cold and hot water. It is also soluble in methanol and ethanol, kerosene, petrol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, mineral and vegetable oils.
The product is characterized by very high resistance to electrolytes, chromium and aluminium salts and hard water. It mixes well with other surfactants regardless of their ionic character. An additional advantage of Roksol N87 is its low solidification point of -19 °C. As a result, it can be used freely in winter conditions without the need for heating it up.
This non-ionic product has excellent degreasing properties at every stage of leather processing. It has good wetting and lowering the surface tension properties, both in acidic and weak alkaline environments, as well as in high salt concentrations.
In leather treatment processes (soaking, liming, decalcification with etching, pickling) Roksol N87 dissolves leather fibrous structure and accelerates the penetration of tanning agents into the leather. When used for soaking of leather, it significantly accelerates the process, at the same time provides degreasing effect with low foaming parameters.
