Roflam B7 is a halogen-free flame retardant in the form of a colourless liquid with low dynamic viscosity. Due to its excellent compatibility with many liquid raw materials, it is successfully used in polyurethane plastics, epoxy resins, vinyl ester resins and unsaturated polyester resins. Among the products belonging to the group of triaryl phosphoric esters, it is distinguished by being non-lethal to human health.
The product inhibits the solid-phase combustion process by forming a charred layer on the surface of the material. It cuts off the access of oxygen from the environment, thus limiting the burning of the material.
Roflam B7 is halogen-free, hence does not emit toxic gases (hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide) during the combustion process. Additional strengthening of the flame retardant effect can be obtained by combining it with powder solutions, i.e. melamine, ammonium polyphosphate, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide. The simultaneous application of these products thanks to the synergy effect allows to meet the rigorous criteria regarding flammability.
Roflam B7 is successfully used in construction materials based on epoxy, vinyl ester and unsaturated polyester resins. It is also one of the components of the formulation of intumescent coatings, used to protect steel structures in public places (e.g. airports, sports halls). During a fire these types of solutions extend the time in which the structural elements retain their useful properties. Such a fire protection method is referred to as passive fire protection (PFP).
Roflam B7 is also dedicated to the production of rigid and semi-rigid polyurethane foams. It is a halogen-free alternative to commonly used solutions in this type of materials. Due to the low acid number, it can be successfully used with alkaline catalysts. It is used in both open formulations and two-component systems. With the use of Roflam B7, rigid and semi-rigid foams meet the requirements of the construction industry regarding flammability, achieving the B2 class according to DIN 4102-1 and obtain good physical and mechanical parameters.
The product is also used as a flame retardant for flexible polyurethane foams used in the furniture industry (mattresses, sofas, armchairs) and car (damping elements, seats), where the priority is low emission of volatile organic compounds. Roflam B7 achieves positive results in flammability tests, such as FMVSS 302. Furthermore, due to the absence of toxic gases during the combustion process of Roflam B7, it is selected for applications with very complex and stringent requirements.
