Roflam P (TCPP) is a widely used flame retardant in the plastics industry, especially in polyurethane processing. It is one of the most effective flame retardants due to the presence of chlorine and phosphorus in the chemical structure. In addition, due to the synergy of Roflam P with flame retardants, such as antimony trioxide and melamine, materials with very high fire resistance can be obtained.
The use of Roflam P increases the resistance of the material to the fire and reduces the rate of flame propagation in the event of material burning. The product during the combustion process inhibits both the solid phase as well as the gas phase, due to which its effectiveness is particularly high. In the gas phase, due to the presence of chlorine atoms, it inhibits the reactions responsible for the spread of fire. On the other hand, in the solid phase due to the presence of phosphorus, it forms a charred protective layer on the surface of the material, which cuts off the access of oxygen from the environment, thus limiting the burning of the material. The simultaneous action of Roflam P in both phases makes it one of the most effective flame retardants compared to other solutions.
Roflam P is a colourless liquid with low dynamic viscosity, which makes it very compatible with liquid raw materials. It is successfully used as a flame retardant for polyurethane plastics, epoxy resins, vinyl ester resins and unsaturated polyester resins. The use of the appropriate amount of Roflam P reduces the internal friction between the molecules, which results in the reduction of the viscosity of the entire system. The reduction of the viscosity of the formulation is of particular importance when working with polymers with high molecular weights, where their high viscosity significantly impedes production processes. The use of liquid and simultaneously low-viscous flame retardant in the formulation streamlines the processes.
Roflam P is successfully used in one-component polyurethane foams, which serve as assembly foams. It is also ideal for rigid spray foams, rigid pour-in-place foams, block foams and sandwich panels, which serve primarily as insulation materials (thermal, acoustic). It is used in both PIR and PUR foams. By using Roflam P, it is possible to obtain materials of fire class B2 according to DIN 4102-1, which allows them to be used in the construction industry. In contrast to many solutions available on the market, it retains good mechanical properties of PU foams while maintaining the flame retardant effect.
The product is also used as a flame retardant of coating and construction materials based on epoxy, vinyl ester and unsaturated polyester resins.
