Dichloropropane (DCP) is a clear, colorless liquid with no mechanical impurities with a characteristic odor. Dichloropropane is obtained in the production of propylene oxide, then distilled for several times. The improvement of the production process allowed the increase of the purity of DCP from min. 97.5% to min. 99%. As a result, the product has gained greater recognition within overseas markets.
One of the main benefits of using dichloropropane is that it can easily replace organic solvents such as toluene, acetone or other xylene derivatives. In contrast to the mentioned products, technical dichloropropane has a fixed price.
Dichloropropane is a highly effective solvent for resins, greases, lubricants, tars and asphalts. In addition, it is well known as a base component in the remover of varnished coatings drying at ambient temperature, as well as stove enamels. In addition to the above-average dissolution properties, DCP is used as a degreaser and metal surface cleaner. Its degreasing effect is also used in the leather tanning process. Due to its chemical properties, it is successfully used in the production of paints and varnishes as well as in printing inks.
Many of the world's refiners also use this product to remove lead from gasoline. In many countries it is still used as a component of fumigants, e.g. D-D and Telone II (fumigator) and insecticides, including the ones designated for peach trees and grasses, and domestic cattle parasites (mainly outside the European Union). In the same markets, DCP is also a product used in the application to combat fungi and molds (e.g. it destroys fusariosis of peas, lemons and tomatoes). One of the niche applications of the product is the impregnation of natural stones.
Dichloropropane is also used for organic syntheses, e.g. tetrachlorethylene, carbon tetrachloride and 1,2-propylenediamine.
PCC Rokita SA is one of the largest chemical companies in Poland as well as Central and Eastern Europe. Its activity includes the production of chloroalkali, polyether polyols, polyalkylene glycols and phosphorus derivatives.
