Isotrideceth-9 is a non-ionic surfactant from the group of ethoxylated fatty alcohols. It is based on isotridecyl alcohol. Isotrideceth-9 is a name used in the international INCI nomenclature. Other chemical names include ethoxylated isotridecanol and isotridecyl alcohol. Its CAS number is 69011-36-5.

Physical and chemical properties of Isotrideceth-9:

• good solubility in water, low aliphatic alcohols (methanol, ethanol),

• hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB): 13.3
• resistant to an oxidizing and reducing environment, also to hard water,
• active in cold water, acid baths, neutral and diluted alkalis.

The role and function of Isotrideceth-9

• detergents

This compound is applied in detergents, mainly due to its excellent foaming properties and short wetting time. As a substance from the group of surfactants, Isotrideceth-9 supports the production of stable foams in large amounts. They are a key element in the mechanism of removing dirt and debris from surfaces. Moreover, this compound has a good degreasing ability.

• supplements used in the textile industry

Isotrideceth-9, which is resistant to electrolytes, especially alkali, is readily used in the textile industry. It is a component included in supplements used in a number of processes. Due to its degreasing properties, Isotrideceth-9 is dedicated as a component of formulations that remove dirt from fabrics and knitted fabrics. It is also a component of bleaching compositions for raw knitted fabrics and cotton fabrics – it improves the dye capillarity during the next stage of fibre processing, i.e. dyeing process.

Isotrideceteh-9 is one of the components of the composition that can be used to remove moss from the surface of concrete or brick, as well as to remove oil stains caused by leaks from vehicles from concrete and asphalt.

It is a component of detergents or wetting agents in pastes used for chrome elements.

In the cosmetic industry, Isotrideceth-9 is used due to its compatibility with derivatives of silicone compounds. It can be found in various products, such as hair shampoos, cleansing masks, make-up bases and shower gels.

It is a substrate used in the preparation of anionic surfactants, such as phosphoric esters and carboxyethers.

• food industry

Isotrideceth-9 has been approved by the FDA (USA) and BfR (Germany) as safe for indirect contact with food. Therefore, it is used as an additive to food packaging and materials intended for contact with food.
