EO/PO block copolymers are created in the reaction of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with alcohol. They consist of blocks of ethylene- (EO) and propylene-oxide (PO) monomers linked in a specific sequence.
Creating different copolymer sections allows to modify their properties and obtain the desired effect depending on the application. Combining the EO/PO positions in one direction may cause significant changes, e.g. in the hydrophilicity/lipophilicity of the compounds.
EO/PO block copolymers belong to the group of non-ionic surfactants and so they act as defoamers, dispersants, wetting agents, detergents and flame retardants.
