SALTS - structure and production

Salts are chemical compounds formed as a result of a reaction between an acid and a base. These substances comprise a positively charged cation and a negatively charged anion, also called an acid radical.

Within this group neutral salts, hydroxy salts, hydrogen salts, double salts, and complex salts can be distinguished. Aqueous solutions of so-called strong salts and strong bases have a neutral reaction. Salts of weak bases and strong acids are characterised by an acidic reaction, while salts of weak acids and strong bases have a basic reaction. Depending on the dissociation constants of the reagents, salts of weak bases and weak acids can have an acidic or basic reaction. There are 10 different reactions that result in salts being produced. Thanks to this, it is possible to obtain many different types and combinations. Each of them will differ in its characteristic properties, which allows salts to be assigned varied applications and uses in different industries.
