BLEACHES

Bleaches are chemicals that cause the whitening effect, i.e. brighten the colour or remove stains.

Their effect results from reactions with coloured organic compounds coming from natural or synthetic pigments. Most bleaches include oxidants: chlorine, sodium hypochlorite and peroxides. Reducers such as sulphur dioxide are used for niche applications such as wool bleaching.

Bleaches contain additives which increase the efficiency of active substances, and cause them to operate n lower temperatures. Bleaches have a wide spectrum of bactericidal properties. Therefore, they are often used for disinfecting and sterilising public places.
