Complexing agents are substances that bind specific ions in the solution.
Their function is to remove from the environment or mask an ion that causes adverse effects. Due to their structure, these substances are able to bind permanently or temporarily to the ion, reducing its impact on the industrial process.
An example of complexing agents are antiscalants, which prevent scale build-up in various systems. They bind the ions that form the sediment, preventing them from being precipitated in a solid form. As a result, the system is protected against failure, which allows to carry out the technological process without downtime.
Complexing agents are used in household chemistry, construction, mining, agriculture, paper, textile and chemical industries.
