Cross-linking agents

Cross-linking agents are substances added to various materials in order to create a network of connections between molecules or material structures. The desired effect of this phenomenon is to improve the mechanical properties, strength, stability or electrical conductivity of a given composite.

Their chemical application focuses on polymers, such as epoxy resins, to which cross-linking agents are added to create a three-dimensional network of cross-links between compound chains. In construction, cross-linking agents increase the strength and shape retention of cement. In the electronic industry, conductive polymers are used as compounds that enable the flow of electricity, e.g. in touch screens. Another example is pharmacy, for which specialised hydrogels are produced.
