Degreasing agents are preparations which dissolve and facilitate the removal of greasy dirt.
These are mainly surfactants and mixtures thereof, which emulsify and remove grease. Degreasing is a preparatory process for further operations, such as painting, dyeing or galvanic coating. Contaminants can adversely affect the quality of the coatings applied, creating unevenness, streaks and lack of adhesion to the painted surfaces.
Degreasing preparations have good wetting, emulsifying and dispersing properties, which makes it easier to remove dirt. Degreasing products may contain additives, such as corrosion inhibitors, which prevent rust formation after cleaning.
Degreasing agents are used in tanning to degrease leather, in the metallurgical industry to prepare metals for electroplating, in the textile industry, as well as in household and industrial chemistry for washing and cleaning.
