DESCALERS

Descalers are chemical compounds whose main task is to dissolve and remove scale.

The term ‘scale’ refers to crystallised salts poorly soluble in water, such as calcium carbonate. To remove it, descalers must be used, which are mostly acidic compounds reacting with the carbonates that form the scale. Those reactions produce water-soluble salt and carbon dioxide.

Descalers also contain other substances that support cleaning and dirt removal, such as surfactants. They also include corrosion inhibitors, which protect metal surfaces against rust.

Scale removal is particularly important in water systems, where accumulated deposit may reduce water flaw, and consequently, cause a breakdown. Effective removal of scale deposit may extend the useful life of devices and equipment, including washing machines, dishwashers or coffee makers. As descalers are highly versatile, they are used both in industry and in households.
